Questions

About FLAC to MP3

Will converting FLAC to MP3 reduce quality?

Technically yes — MP3 is lossy — but at the high VBR setting Wemute uses, the difference is inaudible to most listeners. Keep your FLAC files as the master copy.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Wemute converts files inside your browser tab with your device's own processor. The file contents and names never reach our servers, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded, but your browser's memory sets a practical ceiling: files up to about 2 GB work on most computers. The first conversion downloads the converter engine (about 10 MB) once; after that it is cached.

FLAC: Bit-perfect but about half the size of WAV — still large for phones. MP3: At 192–320 kbps most listeners can't tell it from the original.
