Convert MKV to MP4
Drop an MKV file below and press Convert. Most MKV files already contain H.264 video, so Wemute simply moves the streams into an MP4 container — no quality loss and usually done in seconds. Other codecs are re-encoded automatically.

Questions
About MKV to MP4
What about subtitles and extra audio tracks?
Wemute keeps the main video and first audio track. MP4 handles MKV-style subtitles poorly, so they are not carried over.
Why is video slower than a desktop app?
Browser video encoding runs on the CPU without hardware acceleration. Wemute avoids re-encoding whenever the video stream can simply be moved into the new container, which makes most MOV and MKV to MP4 jobs finish in seconds.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Wemute converts files inside your browser tab with your device's own processor. The file contents and names never reach our servers, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Format comparison
How MKV and MP4 differ
| MKV | MP4 | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Container for almost any codec | Lossy (usually H.264) |
| Best for | Archiving video with many audio and subtitle tracks | Sharing and uploading video anywhere |
| Compatibility | Desktop players; poor on phones and TVs | Universal |
MKV: Often the video inside is already H.264, so it can move into MP4 without re-encoding. MP4: H.264 in MP4 plays on virtually every phone, browser, TV and editor.
